True Love At First…Tweet

Forget love at first sight—what about love at first tweet?

If you follow many celebrity or company Twitters, you know that some accounts are wittier than others. For bookworm Victoria Carlin, the pinnacle of Tweet-genius was the account of Waterstones bookshop on Oxford Street in London.

In a burst of inspiration that Victoria admits was partially fueled by wine (“Maybe prosecco.”), she tweeted the bookstore her undying love:

Well I’m in love with whoever is manning the @WstonesOxfordSt account. Be still my actual beating heart.

Unfortunately, Jonathan O’Brien, the bookstore employee who manned the account, was used to declarations of love for his clever snippets, and usually managed to brush them off with additional witticisms.

That same day, the bookstore tweeted back: Pff, he’s not that dreamy in real life.

Victoria, however, managed to make her specific adoration stand out by mentioning that she believed Jonathan and herself had in fact gone out on a date before.

“It was only when Victoria accidentally implied we’d already been on a date that I got in touch to find out what she was talking about,” he told People Magazine. Indeed, Victoria learned she had been mistaken, but cheerfully suggested they rectify it by going out on a date! Jonathan agreed—though only after Victoria presented him with a box of doughnuts he had tweeted about craving.

Four years and however many dates, doughnuts and tweets, Victoria announced the couple’s fated marriage on Twitter.
