The architecture of the French Quarter is, for lack of a better word, breathtaking! It is the perfect marriage of treasured history and the reckless abandon lifestyle of the undeserving modern world. Whiffs of that warm caramel pralines laced the air of New Orleans. Streets are lined with Southern comfort foods where omelets are dressed up in crawfish étouffé, day drinking is not only allowed on the streets but encouraged. Fleur de lis adorned the balcony railings, exposed bricks and narrow alleyways kept the secrets of old world’s past. If you end up on a quieter street, take a slower pace and listen to the whisper of 1832 revisiting you as you turn the corner past an old Creole mansion on Royal Street. Ferns and turquoise make love here after a night of too good jazz and Sazerac. A gentleman greets you and gestures for you to come sip and soirée at his tree-canopied wine bar. You, corseted or not, are standing in the same balcony above the saloon where the girls and their madam once accosted men and were fined $5.00. Welcome to New Orleans.

His girlfriend stayed by his side and chronicled their entire journey in a video that will make you believe in the beauty of human resilience in the face of great love.
It is hard to put into words the overwhelming sadness that envelopes you when you see NY Times photographer, Todd Heisler’s Pulitzer winning photo, at 5:00 in the morning. You are not in your bedroom. You are in that room where the stars and stripes draped the coffin. You are sitting in the pew, watching the scenes from Heisler’s photos unfold. The sun has not risen, and all is not well in the world.
